Nepal requests China for flood alert technology following system failure
Following the failure of its existing infrastructure to provide timely alerts before Wednesday's destructive floods, Nepal has asked China for an early warning system to track glacial lake outbursts in the Himalayas. Minister Mahabir Pun stated, "We couldn't get any warning from China...everything happened so fast...We've to learn the lesson." At present, there is no formal agreement between Nepal and China regarding the exchange of early flood warning data.
