Nearby coal plants drive high SO2 levels in Delhi

A report by CREA reveals that the majority of coal-based power stations situated within 300 km of the Delhi-NCR region do not have flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) technology, which accounts for nearly 90% of sulphur dioxide (SO2) pollution. The study noted that 81% of these SO2 emissions originate from facilities that were granted exemptions from setting up this pollution-mitigation gear. These results have sparked new worries regarding the state of air quality in the Delhi-NCR area.
