Navi Mumbai resident of 20 years deported to Bangladesh; family insists she is Indian
A 40-year-old West Bengal native, who had resided in Navi Mumbai for two decades, was reportedly detained by police at a market, transported to Assam, and forced across the border into Bangladesh, according to an Indian Express report. Her husband, Jumman Fakir, maintains that they are both Indian citizens and claims they presented her identification papers at a detention facility in Chembur. Shaheda Fakir’s relatives are now preparing to file a petition with the Calcutta High Court.
