A jewellery business based in Navi Mumbai was swindled out of ₹10.7 crore after scammers posed as the owner on WhatsApp. The culprits tricked an accounts staff member into wiring money to several different bank accounts. Although the fraudulent profile featured the owner’s picture, it operated from an unauthorized phone number. The deception was uncovered when the actual owner joined a group call on WhatsApp and stated that they had never approved the transactions.
