Namal Rajapaksa taken into custody regarding Airbus bribery investigation
Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) detained MP Namal Rajapaksa on Friday. The arrest is linked to a 2013 deal involving the purchase of Airbus planes valued at $2.3 billion. Investigators claim that Airbus funneled kickbacks to high-ranking Sri Lankan government figures. Namal’s father, the former President, was also interrogated in May. The Rajapaksa family maintains that all accusations of graft are driven by political motives.
