Research published in 'Inland Waters' reveals that clearing invasive common carp from a Minnesota lake boosted water transparency by almost 600%, with aquatic plant coverage expanding from 4.6% to 90%. These carp, which originate from Asia and Eastern Europe, disturb lake beds to forage, which destroys underwater vegetation and triggers algae blooms. Following a rotenone treatment, the lake's water quality saw significant improvements in just a few months.
