Meta to begin production of Iris AI chip this September to lower Nvidia dependency

Meta is set to launch the manufacturing of its proprietary Iris AI chip in September 2026 as part of a strategy to decrease its dependence on Nvidia and AMD. The tech giant intends to increase its computing power from seven gigawatts in 2026 to 14 gigawatts by 2027. Meta plans to integrate these custom chips to enhance the AI capabilities powering Facebook and Instagram.
