Devendra Nath Mahto, a student activist from a Ranchi village, began an indefinite hunger strike on August 2. He is standing in solidarity with students who are demonstrating against alleged flaws in Jharkhand's recruitment exams. Mahto finished his early education in Bundu and holds a B.Ed. degree from Hazaribagh. Earlier this year, he ran as an Independent candidate in the 2024 Jharkhand assembly elections representing the Tamar constituency.
