Mandatory green energy targets could threaten essential farmland

While India’s target of reaching 20% ethanol blending by 2025 is a significant step for lowering emissions, it carries serious risks. According to a recent PLOS ONE study conducted by IIM Ahmedabad experts, the push for first-generation biofuels might lead to higher food costs and severe water scarcity, provided the government does not shift its focus toward different crop alternatives.
