Maharashtra government lost ₹1.62 crore to 'ghost hostels' over four years

A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has identified six 'ghost hostels' in Maharashtra that collectively received ₹1.62 crore in state funding despite having no students. These facilities were located in Jalna, which had four, along with one each in Buldhana and Latur. By March 2024, the state was operating 443 government hostels and supporting 2,388 government-aided hostels.
