Lancet study reveals 50% jump in Indian deaths from passive smoking

According to a new study published in The Lancet Public Health, passive smoking has emerged as a significant public health issue in India, with related fatalities increasing by almost 50% over a 30-year period. The research estimates that second-hand smoke caused 3,25,600 deaths in India in 2023, marking a roughly 50% rise from the 2,17,700 deaths recorded in 1990.
