Ladakh plans district-level hill councils and UT body following Article 371 adaptation

On Monday, the Ladakh administration revealed plans to establish autonomous hill development councils across all seven districts by adapting Article 371. Additionally, the administration has put forward a proposal for an elected body at the Union Territory level, which would hold legislative, financial, executive, and administrative authority. At present, such hill development councils exist only in Leh and Kargil, having been established in 1995 and 2003, respectively.
