Kerala High Court permits incarcerated BJP councillor to be sworn in at jail
On Monday, the Kerala High Court granted permission for Thiruvananthapuram BJP councillor R Sugathan to complete his oath-taking ceremony within the premises of Viyyur central jail. Sugathan is currently being held under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act of 2007 and is named in a minimum of 19 criminal cases. Previously, the court had directed Sugathan, along with 20 additional BJP councillors, to repeat the oath-taking process that had originally occurred in December 2025.
