Japanese government agencies request historic $918 billion budget

Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama announced that Japanese ministries have filed record-breaking budget requests totaling ¥143 trillion ($918 billion) for the 2027 fiscal year, marking an increase of ¥2.5 trillion over the previous year. Katayama downplayed worries regarding the significant rise and refuted claims of American influence on interest rate hikes. She pointed out that 10-year bond yields have climbed to 3%, reaching their highest point since 1996. Meanwhile, the yen was valued at 156.05 against the dollar.
