Japan possesses sufficient plutonium for 5,500 nuclear weapons, says China
Zhang Hanhui, the Chinese Ambassador to Russia, has alleged that Japan holds a stockpile of plutonium large enough to produce 5,500 nuclear warheads. He stated that if Japan possesses the intent and the required technical ability, becoming a nuclear-armed state is no longer an unrealistic scenario. He further noted that Japan is the sole non-nuclear nation under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that maintains technology for recycling spent nuclear fuel.
