Italy to deploy 80,000 octopuses to curb blue crab surge

Researchers at the University of Bologna in Italy are getting ready to introduce 80,000 octopuses into the Adriatic Sea before August concludes, aiming to manage the growing blue crab numbers. These crabs are known for their voracious appetite and have allegedly resulted in roughly €200 million in damages for the Italian shellfish sector. Controlling their spread is a major challenge, as a single female blue crab is capable of laying millions of eggs.
