A global group of scientists has created a novel bone graft substance by incorporating gallium oxide into a standard Bioglass 45S5 foundation. This material works by specifically targeting and eliminating remaining bone cancer cells, preventing bacterial growth, and stimulating the regrowth of lost bone tissue. Within the cancer cells, gallium mimics iron but is unable to engage in redox processes. This triggers oxidative stress, ultimately forcing the cells to destroy themselves.
