Indonesia closes eight airports following volcanic activity

Following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which propelled ash clouds as high as 50,000 feet, Indonesia has suspended operations at eight airports, among them Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta. The disruption has impacted 170,000 travelers and caused delays for 1,558 flights. In response, schools in Jakarta have moved to remote learning, and ships have been prohibited from entering a 3km zone around the volcano. Officials have stated that additional eruptions are very likely, though there is no immediate threat of a tsunami.
