India's fiscal deficit jumps past ₹3 lakh crore in one month
Data from the Controller General of Accounts shows that India's fiscal deficit climbed to ₹3.08 lakh crore in June, nearly doubling from the ₹1.62 lakh crore recorded in May. This figure now represents more than 18% of the total target set for the 2027 fiscal year. The government has projected the fiscal deficit for FY27 at ₹16.96 lakh crore, which is equivalent to 4.3% of the GDP.
