India's adultery laws and police hotel inspections
Since the Supreme Court abolished Section 497 in 2018, adultery is no longer considered a criminal offense in India. Even so, law enforcement might still conduct checks at hotels if they are investigating reports of illegal acts or missing persons. Adults who are consenting have a legal right to privacy and should not face harassment. It is also important for individuals to stay alert regarding potential blackmail attempts and to notify authorities right away if they encounter such situations.
