Indian Railways penalized ₹25,000 for forcing RAC passengers to share a blanket
The Delhi consumer commission has imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on Indian Railways for not supplying individual blankets to two passengers with no relation to each other who were traveling on RAC tickets. A complaint was lodged by one of the passengers, who cited both mental distress and physical discomfort. Based on a government circular issued in 2009, RAC passengers are entitled to a blanket and bedsheet since the cost of the bedroll is already covered in their ticket fare.
