Indian astronomers identify two dead stars spiraling toward each other at record pace

A global research group headed by Indian scientists has spotted two dead stars moving toward one another at an unprecedented rate. The study reveals that these white dwarfs—the compact remnants left after stars similar to our Sun exhaust their energy—are trapped in a remarkably close orbit.
