India starts trial in absentia for Hafiz Saeed and 5 others over 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks

Indian authorities and the Mumbai Police have initiated an in-absentia trial against six Pakistani militants, including Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed, regarding the 26/11 terror strikes. Following the provisions of the BNSS, legal proceedings can now move forward against declared offenders who do not present themselves in court. Should they be found guilty, they would be subject to sentencing if they are ever apprehended and brought to India. The 26/11 attacks in Mumbai resulted in the deaths of more than 160 individuals.
