India sees 29% drop in edible oil imports during June following PM Modi's request
Data from the Solvent Extractors' Association of India shows that the country's edible oil imports dropped by 29% compared to last year, reaching 11.46 lakh tonnes in June. This decrease follows a call from PM Narendra Modi in May, where he urged citizens to cut down on edible oil usage to support foreign exchange reserves during global geopolitical instability. For comparison, India had imported 16.16 lakh tonnes of edible oil in June 2025.
