India sees 12th-driest July since 2001, data shows
According to News18, which referenced IMD statistics, India experienced its 12th-driest July since 2001. Although the rainfall shortage improved from a 35.4% deficit in June to roughly 13% in July, the intensifying El Niño effect kept dampening the southwest monsoon. IMD head Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra noted that July rainfall has been on a downward trend, particularly over the previous five years.
