India reports first-ever detection of lethal parrot virus

Researchers have successfully identified and mapped the genetics of Parrot Bornavirus (PaBV-4), a dangerous and infectious virus responsible for a deadly wasting condition in macaws, parrots, and similar birds. The study involved testing 83 bird samples gathered across Karnataka, West Bengal, and Assam from 2020 to 2024.
