India leads global ship recycling market with 35% share
India has taken the top spot globally for ship recycling, growing its market share to 35.4% in 2025, up from 30.1% the previous year. According to figures from UNCTAD, the country processed 2.99 million Gross Tonnes (GT) of ships in 2025, a significant increase from the 1.86 million GT recorded in 2024. With this performance, India has successfully met its Maritime India Vision 2030 goal five years earlier than planned.
