India achieves FY26 fiscal deficit goal, credit rating outlook strengthens: FM Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the central government successfully reached its fiscal deficit target for FY26, bringing it down to 4.4% of the GDP. She further noted that India’s credit ratings are on an upward trajectory and stated that the administration is working toward reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio to 50% by the year 2030. Sitharaman also highlighted the difference between India's debt situation and that of various developed nations, where public debt has climbed past 200% of their respective GDPs.
