Income tax returns filed for AY 2026-27 cross 5 crore mark
The Income Tax Department announced that more than five crore income tax returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2026-27 have been submitted as of Wednesday. As the July 31 deadline draws near, the department urged taxpayers not to delay until the final moments, stating, "Don't wait for the last-minute rush. Reconcile and file your ITR-1 or ITR-2 for AY 2026-27 today!" Additionally, officials noted that over 30 lakh returns were processed on Tuesday alone.
