IIT Bombay team creates eco-friendly plastic composites

A group of researchers at IIT Bombay has engineered sustainable materials by blending common plastics with biodegradable grasses, specifically Munja and Bermuda grass. Under the guidance of Professor Aparna Singh, the team successfully produced durable, lightweight, and recyclable green composites. This includes a 3D printing filament that incorporates between 5% and 40% Munja grass. These patented materials have the potential to be used for sustainable solutions across various industrial sectors.
