Hungary's Paks nuclear facility halts operations for the first time in 44 years

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated that the nation's sole nuclear energy facility was taken offline this Sunday, marking the first such occurrence in 44 years, as a result of extreme heat and drought conditions. He noted that the Danube River, which provides cooling water for the Paks plant, has reached an all-time low water level. The facility is scheduled to remain inactive for a period of five days.
