Huge Greenland iceberg stays intact after colliding with Joe Island
NASA reports that a 76-square-kilometre iceberg, which separated from the Petermann Glacier in Greenland, crashed into Joe Island but remained in one piece. The massive ice block calved on August 4 and collided with the small rocky landmass located at the entrance of Petermann Fjord later that same month. Researchers noted that the iceberg subsequently rotated and moved into the Nares Strait, where it is expected to eventually disintegrate due to the influence of tides, currents, winds, and melting.
