Himalayan lake DNA findings reshape understanding of human history

A joint research project involving several Indian institutions has successfully recovered ancient sedimentary DNA (sedaDNA) from Toli Lake in Uttarakhand. The analysis identified human genetic markers that are 8,300 years old. This discovery suggests that humans were traveling through high-altitude Himalayan regions 5,000 years sooner than what had been previously established by physical archaeological findings.
