An American hiker survived a freak accident after a trekking pole impaled his torso while he was climbing the 12,803-foot Granite Peak, the highest mountain in Montana. Despite his injury, 32-year-old David Cifaldi hiked almost 16 km over six and a half hours to reach safety, and doctors later successfully extracted the pole from his body. "I knew it wasn't deep...I could take deep breaths," Cifaldi said.
