Heatwaves in England and Wales claimed over 2,700 lives, report finds
A recent report indicates that more than 2,700 individuals passed away in England and Wales throughout the heatwaves experienced in May and June 2026. The initial heatwave saw temperatures climb to approximately 35°C in west London, whereas the second heatwave pushed temperatures to 37.7°C in areas such as Lingwood and Norfolk. For comparison, the UK Health Security Agency calculated that there were 1,504 deaths linked to heat during the summer of 2025.
