Government mulls fuel-efficiency credit trading scheme for auto firms

According to a Mint report, the government is looking into a credit-debit passbook mechanism. Under this plan, car manufacturers that have surpassed their Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) goals since the 2022-23 fiscal year would be allowed to trade their extra compliance credits to companies that failed to meet the standards. If this initiative moves forward, it could prove advantageous for Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, as both companies have regularly achieved their fuel-efficiency benchmarks.
