Government distributes 4,000 tonnes of onions to control price hikes
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare stated that the government has offloaded approximately 4,000 tonnes of onions at discounted prices across 17 cities over the past 10 days to manage rising costs. She mentioned that significant supplies have already been dispatched to Delhi and Chennai, with shipments to Guwahati planned shortly. According to reports, the government maintains a buffer stock of 1.21 lakh tonnes of onions for the year 2026.
