According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Google DeepMind is preparing to launch a new AI model featuring major improvements in coding performance. The move is intended to help the company catch up to competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. The model, which may be branded as Gemini 3.8 Flash, is referred to as "Skimaki" within the company. During internal evaluations on Google’s coding platform, Jetski, engineers reportedly favored the 3.8 Flash model over Anthropic’s Opus.
