Google removes over 350 South Korean YouTube channels before June 3 elections

In the second quarter of 2026, Google closed 449 YouTube channels based in South Korea due to their political nature. Of those, 367 were taken down during May, just before the local elections held on June 3. These channels were deleted for sharing material that either backed or opposed the South Korean administration. In a separate development, Google and Apple have faced allegations of breaching app store regulations by imposing steep commissions on external payment platforms.
