Gig workers and self-employed individuals might soon access PF benefits

According to a report by The Times of India, the EPFO is developing a structure to enable gig workers, the self-employed, and those in the unorganised sector to participate in the provident fund system. This potential universal PF plan aims to help these individuals save for their retirement while providing tax advantages. Under this proposal, yearly contributions reaching ₹2.5 lakh, plus the accumulated interest, could be exempt from taxes.
