German residents evacuated as Belgian wildfire nears border

On Sunday, authorities in the German town of Monschau directed residents to leave their homes due to a large wildfire burning in Belgium that is moving toward the border. Officials cleared two streets, pointing to the encroaching fire, thick smoke, and current weather patterns as the primary reasons. The fire was located only 1.8 km away from the closest residential zone. Monschau is home to approximately 12,000 people.
