Former educator returns to see forest he helped grow in desert 26 years later
Ronald Sakolsky, a retired teacher from the US, recently traveled back to China's Mu Us Desert. Back in 1999, he collected $5,000 to assist a local farmer in fighting desert expansion by planting trees. Over two decades later, the pair met up again to stroll through a lush forest that has taken the place of the once-empty dunes. Currently, over 80% of the Mu Us Desert, which is among China's four primary sandy areas, is now covered in greenery.
