FIFA adviser Carlos Cordeiro quits following plan to sell World Cup stake

FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s top adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, has stepped down immediately. He quit in protest of a plan to sell a 20% stake in a $20-billion subsidiary that manages the World Cup and other major tournaments. Describing the move as a “bad deal for football,” Cordeiro argued that FIFA already possesses sufficient revenue and reserves to fund its member associations, making it unnecessary to sell off its primary asset to external investors.
