Europe officially launches IRIS2 satellite project to compete with Starlink
The European Commission has finalized a contract with the SpaceRISE consortium to move forward with the full development of IRIS2, Europe’s own satellite network. The project, which aims to challenge SpaceX's Starlink, will grow by 66 additional satellites, bringing the final count to 348. IRIS2 is set to go live in 2029, providing encrypted and secure communication services for defense, government, and emergency response operations.
