EU warns Pakistan to protect minority girls or face trade privilege cuts
The European Parliament has condemned Pakistan regarding the kidnapping, forced religious conversion, and underage marriage of girls belonging to minority groups. Officials highlighted the situation of Maria Shahbaz, a 13-year-old Christian girl who was taken, forced to convert to Islam, and compelled to marry her captor. The EU Parliament cautioned that Pakistan might lose its GSP+ trade status if the country does not improve its human rights record.
