Emiliano Martínez played through a broken finger during the World Cup
Before the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain, Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez shared that he has dealt with daily pain throughout the competition. He suffered a fracture in his right ring finger just before Aston Villa's Europa League final this past May. Although doctors recommended surgery, Martínez chose to skip the operation so he could represent Argentina. He noted that the discomfort has improved since the Round of 16.
