Debt market investments offset foreign stock sell-off in India

Data from Bank of Baroda Research reveals that foreign investors pulled approximately $27 billion out of Indian shares throughout 2026. However, the debt market saw an inflow of nearly $9 billion during the same period. India captured about 14% of all debt investments flowing into Asia, when excluding China and Japan. This trend highlights that while global investors are wary of the equity market, they continue to find value in Indian fixed-income assets.
