Nearly 3,000 individuals across 23 states in the US have been diagnosed with a fungal infection known as Candida auris. This fungus primarily targets patients staying in nursing facilities and hospitals. It has the ability to penetrate the body via hair follicles, compromising the immune system and changing the skin's condition, which increases vulnerability to further infections. Certain variants of this fungus are known to be immune to the majority of antifungal treatments.
