Consumer court directs insurer to compensate Mumbai liquor firm with ₹1.2 crore for flood damage

The South Mumbai District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed an insurance company to provide ₹1.2 crore to a liquor wholesale business for inventory destroyed during the 2017 floods. Although the insurer's own surveyor had recommended settling the claim in 2020, the company chose to reject it. The commission has now mandated that the insurer pay the amount along with 9% annual interest, calculated from the date the claim was initially turned down.
