China suggests new economic route connecting Myanmar and Bangladesh
Following the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), China has put forward a plan for a fresh economic corridor that would connect China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. This initiative was brought up while Bangladeshi PM Tarique Rahman was in Beijing. Should this project be realized, it would likely increase China's strategic influence within the Bay of Bengal. It is worth noting that India has expressed opposition to the CPEC project because it passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
